Objective: Reproductive clinics are involved with repeated implantation failure (RIF) as an inevitable challenge. This study evaluated the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in the improvement of implantation outcome in patients who suffer from RIF.
Methods: Thirty RIF women were the candidate for frozen-thawed embryo transfer entered the study. The platelet taken from their peripheral blood sample became pure 4-5 times and infused through the uterus 48 hrs prior to embryo transfer. The difference in the implantation, clinical pregnancy and miscarriage rates in the cycles before and after PRP were analyzed.
Results: Implantation rate in the PRP group was 2(6.67%). No significant relationship was found in the implantation rate, clinical pregnancy, ongoing pregnancy and miscarriage rate in the frozen-thawed embryo recipients before and after PRP infusion. However, the size of the PRP effect of d =0.39 (Cohen's d) on the implantation rate represented a relationship in medium strength.
Conclusion: It seems that platelet-rich plasma could contribute as a safe therapeutic option alongside other therapeutic plans for improving reproductive outcome in women with repeated implantation failure.
