OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the location of endometrial polyps in infertile patients and their impact on pregnancy rate.To determine if body mass index (BMI) is an independent risk factor for the development of endometrial polyps. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 94 medical records were retrospectively evaluated between 2009 and 2012, from patients diagnosed of infertility associated to endometrial polyps found by histerosonography and confirmed during surgical hysteroscopy. 37 patients of the total didn ́t follow any assisted reproductive therapy, meanwhile 57 patients did. Hysteroscopic findings were taken into account to determine endometrial polyps location (anterior uterine wall, posterior uterine wall, uterine fundal and others). We compared the pregnancy rate between these 4 locations. RESULT(S): The incidence of endometrial polyps was as follow, by location: anterior uterine wall, 26.6%; posterior uterine wall, 33%; uterine fundal, 9.6% and others, 13.8%. The clinical pregnancy rate and ongoing preg- nancy rate after hysteroscopic polypectomy were 53.1% and 64.9% respectively. The pregnancy rate was as follow, by polyps location: anterior uterine wall, 46.7%; posterior uterine wall, 50% and uterine foundal, 50%). The logistic regression analysis using age and obesity didn ́t show influence of BMI >25 and the development of endometrial polyps. CONCLUSION(S): Patients who underwent IVF after hysteroscopic polypectomy show high percentage of ongoing pregnancy rate (69.4%) and low abortion rate (2.9%). We did not find statistically significant difference between pregnancy rate and endometrial polyps location. We did not find a relationship betwe- en development of endometrial polyps and BMI>25.
