Abstract
It is estimated that approximately 5 million children conceived by assisted reproduction techniques have been born since 1978. Although infertility is considered an indepen- dent risk factor for health problems, an increased chance of pre- and perinatal problems in those children has been attributed to therapeutic cycles. This article aims to condense the information available about altered epigenetic inheritance, numerical and structural chromosomal anomalies, perinatal results and birth defects for those children.
