Objective: To evaluate the quality of life of women before and after oocyte cryopreservation for fertility preservation.
Methods: This is a prospective longitudinal study with pre- and post-intervention assessments and no control group. Women who underwent oocyte freezing for fertility preservation due to social reasons or oncological diagnoses between April 2021 and January 2023 at an assisted reproduction center in southern Brazil were invited to participate in the study. Numerical data were presented as median and interquartile range (Q1–Q3), considering that the distribution was non-normal.
Results: The sample consisted of 22 women with a median age of 35 (31–36), of whom 13 were single (61.9%), 8 were married (38.1%), and 3 were oncology patients (13.64%). The median number of oocytes retrieved was 7 (3–15.25). No statistically significant differences were observed between pre- and post-oocyte retrieval in any of the WHOQOL-BREF domains.
Conclusion: None of the WHOQOL-BREF domains showed statistically significant changes after the intervention, suggesting that the participants' quality of life remained stable during the evaluated period. Future studies are recommended to include a larger number of participants and a longer follow-up period to better assess possible effects of the intervention on quality of life. Increasing the sample size may improve statistical power, enabling the detection of changes that may have gone unnoticed in this study. Additionally, prolonged follow-up will allow for the analysis of medium- and long-term effects, which may become more evident over time.
