Objective: To analyze the applications of artificial intelligence in the treatment of female infertility. The study aims to understand and identify how this technology is being integrated into the field of assisted human reproduction, assessing its effectiveness, limitations, future perspectives, and clinical outcomes in women undergoing infertility treatment. Method: This study was conducted through a narrative review based on scientific articles retrieved from the PubMed and Web of Science databases using the keywords "artificial intelligence", "infertility treatments", and "female". The advanced search resulted in 146 articles from PubMed and 20 from Web of Science, all published within the last five years, totaling 166 articles within the researched theme. After removing duplicates, 156 articles were selected for further review. Exclusion criteria were then applied, eliminating studies focused exclusively on male infertility or those unrelated to the use of artificial intelligence in female infertility. After this screening, 70 articles remained, of which 44 were discarded for not being directly related to the topic. Thus, the final sample included 26 articles.
Results: Based on the reading of the articles included in the work, the transformation generated by the use of artificial intelligence in the diagnosis and evaluation of female infertility is observed. This technology is reshaping the way healthcare professionals approach and understand the complexities of women's reproductive health, offering innovative tools to streamline processes and improve outcomes. During the review, the use of AI stands out as an aid to ultrasound professionals for the early identification of minor abnormalities in the pelvic area enabling early diagnosis and treatment by reducing the subjectivity of image interpretation and better standardizing results which leads to more objective insights, improving diagnostic accuracy and ensuring consistency of results, benefiting both professionals and patients. Furthermore, the use of AI has also proven helpful in evaluating endometrial data, helping doctors and researchers understand how changes in this tissue can directly influence a woman's reproductive capacity.
Conclusion: Therefore, it can be concluded that the new technological revolution, marked by artificial intelligence, emerges as a promising ally in the investigation and treatment of female infertility. This technology has transformed the way healthcare professionals identify and assess changes in women's reproductive health, especially in the early detection of subtle abnormalities through ultrasound and the analysis of endometrial data, resulting in more precise and standardized diagnoses. It represents a paradigm shift that promises better outcomes for women seeking to fulfill their dream of motherhood. It is, accordingly, the responsibility of professionals and the scientific community to promote the responsible and continuous use of this technology, ensuring that its benefits reach all women facing the challenges of infertility in a safe, effective, and equitable manner. As its applications continue to expand, artificial intelligence is expected to contribute to more personalized and successful reproductive treatments increasingly.
