P-216. Sustainability in Assisted Reproduction: ONA Accreditation as a Driver of Quality, Safety, and Continuity of Life

Objective: To explore the challenges and positive outcomes of implementing ONA (Organização Nacional de Acreditação) accreditation in an assisted reproduction clinic, highlighting its role as a driver of reproductive sustainability—not only ecological but also organizational and human.
Methods: This descriptive qualitative study analyzed the implementation of ONA accreditation in a Brazilian assisted reproduction service. The process followed a multi-phase strategy: (1) mapping processes and identifying gaps in quality management; (2) developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); (3) multidisciplinary team training and engagement; and (4) continuous quality improvement cycles using the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) model. Data were collected from pre- and post-accreditation analyses of key performance indicators (KPIs), patient satisfaction surveys, and internal audit results.
Results: The accreditation process revealed initial challenges, such as staff resistance to changes in routines and increased workload from documentation and compliance requirements. Targeted training, transparent communication of objectives, and strong leadership support proved essential to overcoming these barriers.
Post-accreditation analyses showed significant positive impacts:
-30% reduction in non-conformities during internal quality audits. -20% increase in patient satisfaction scores, especially regarding safety, transparency, and trust in care delivery.
-Notable decrease in operational rework, enhancing workflow efficiency and staff productivity.
-Improved inventory management and safer medication supply chain, reducing losses and increasing reliability.
-Strengthened team cohesion and organizational culture, with staff reporting higher motivation and role clarity.
-Implementation of environmentally responsible waste management practices aligned with broader sustainability goals.
Conclusion: The ONA accreditation process demonstrated that quality certification serves as a catalyst for holistic sustainability in assisted reproduction. Beyond ecological measures, it promotes organizational resilience, operational excellence, and patient-centered care. These results indicate that accreditation is a strategic investment for continuity of life and reproductive healthcare services, offering a replicable model for other clinics aiming to integrate quality and sustainability into daily practice.
