P-161. Migration to the Free Energy Market with 100% renewable energy sources in an assisted reproduction clinic: economic and environmental impact of the change

Objective: The growing demand for sustainable practices in healthcare institutions is driving assisted reproduction clinics to rethink their energy matrix. High consumption of electricity represents a critical point in the environmental impact of the sector. This paper aims to describe the transition of our clinic to the Free Energy Market, with 100% renewable energy supply, and to present the economic and environmental benefits of the measure.
Methods: In June 2023, a contract was signed with the energy company for migration to the Free Energy Market. The actual transition took place in 2025, due to the bureaucracy faced with the electricity distributor. The SMF (Billing Measurement System) was adapted, a technical requirement for consumers migrating from the Captive Market to the Free Market. The SMF is responsible for measuring and recording consumption in accordance with the standards of the ONS (National Electric System Operator) and the CCEE (Electric Energy Trading Chamber). Internal studies of economic feasibility and environmental impact supported the decision. Previous consumption was monitored and projections of cost and carbon emission reductions were made for the period from 2025 to 2030.
Results: 100% of the clinic's electricity is now from renewable sources. Projected reduction of 114 tons of CO2 between 2025 and 2030, equivalent to the carbon filtering performed by 818 trees. Average savings of 20% on the electricity bill. The implementation of the SMF was an important and necessary technical milestone to ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to the clinic's new energy policy. The change brought not only operational and economic gains, but also reinforced the institution's positioning in favor of sustainability, generating recognition through the achievement of the Green Seal.
Conclusion: Migration to the Free Energy Market, with 100% renewable energy supply, is a viable, safe and highly effective strategy for assisted reproduction clinics. Cost reduction combined with positive environmental impact strengthens sustainability as a pillar of innovation, ethics and social responsibility in the sector. Our model can serve as a reference for other institutions seeking to combine technical excellence with environmental preservation.
