Abstract

Recent meeting held in Milan brought together members of the international scientific community around the discussion on the technology of in vitro maturation. Clinical application of technology has acquired a new dimension when Trounson (1994) presented the results of maturation, fertilization and embryo development in vitro of oocytes collected from patients with polycystic ovaries, but many of its physiological aspects are subject to search and questioning, since important differences exist between gametes matured in vivo and in vitro.
