Abstract
Objective: The aim of this paper was to compare fertilization, embryo development, pregnancy and implantation rates when embryo culture with GV or IVF media is used.
Patients and methods: From 46 initiated cycles, 32 had oocytes cultured either with IVFTM or GV medium with SSS 10% (Group I). The other 14 cycles were cultured with IVFTM medium (Group II). In Group I, 190 oocytes were obtained, among which 96 were cultured in IVFTM and 94 in GV medium with SSS 10%. In Group II, 56 oocytes obtained that were culture in IVFTM medium.
Results: Among 190 oocytes from Group I, 154 developed into embryos (81%), and in Group II, from 56 oocytes, 45 developed into embryos (80%). In Group I 128 embryos (83%) had more than 6 cells on day three after fertilization, and 86 embryos (56%) had less than 20% of fragmentation. In Group II, 37 embryos (82%) had more than 6 cells on day three after fertilization and 28 embryos (62%) had less than 20% of fragmentation. The pregnancy and implantation rates were similar for both groups.
Conclusion: There were no statistically significant differences in the use of IVF or GV media for embryo culture.
