Abstract
Premature Ovarian Failure (POF) is a clinical syndrome with multiple causes. It is characterized by an interruption in ovarian function before the age of 40´s. It´s incidence is about 0,9%, and occurs as a consequence of folicullar disfunction or because follicular exhaustion. There are evidences suggesting that POF can be part of an autoimmune disease. There is not an unique clinical pattern. These patients have hipergonadotrofic hipoestrogenism. The women with follicular disfunction still have ovarian follicules and can resume their ovarian function, and consequently, their fertility. POF has social, psychological and clinical impact. It´s important to replace hormone to these patients. The POF´s phisiophatology have to be better understood for a more effective treatment. One of the worse consequences of this disturbance is in the fertility field.
