The advances in Reproductive Medicine have allowed a growing number of couples with difficulties or reproductive impediments to achieve the desired pregnancy. From the development of the intracytoplasmic sperm injection, a quantitative jump was reached and even couples with severe masculine factors of infertility could be treated. One of the main questions that came following the dissemination of these methodologies is the association between these techniques and an increased the risk of congenital malformations. While some studies present positive association data, others demonstrate that the risk is similar to the observed in natural conceptions. Comparisons between the different methodologies also disclose controversial results. The issue is controversial and more prospective studies are necessary to get concrete conclusions.
