Abstract

This study was performed to compare the efficacy of two different preparations of vaginal progesterone for luteal phase support in patients submitted to assisted reproduction treatment using GnRH analogs.A total of 244 patients submitted to infertility treatment with ART were included in our study.Patients were randomly allocated in two groups with 2 different luteal phase support.Patients in group1 received vaginal micronized progesterone capsules(Utrogestan), 200mg 3times a day. In group2, patients received vaginal micronized progesterone gel(Crinone 8%) containing 90mg once a day.All patients had depot GnRHa long protocol for pituitary supression and the same superovulation protocol.Patients started the use of progesterone at day 1 after oocyte retrieval and continued its for 13 days when pregnancy test was performed. Both groups had 122patients.The cause of infertility was similar in both groups. The mean age in group 1 was 34.81 and in group 2, 34.50(not significant). The number of embryos transferred ranged from 1 to 4(mean=3.4)in group 1 and from 1 to 4(mean=3.46) in group (not significant). The pregnancy rate was higher in group 2 than in group 1(44.26%x36.06%) however the difference did not reach statistical significance. This study demonstrates that different preparations of vaginal progesterone for luteal phase support, in assisted reproduction treatment cycles, using GnRHa, have similar pregnancy rates.
