Abstract

We discuss egg sharing donation and our results among donors and recipients. Methods:One hundred and sixty-one donor candidates were stimulated resulting in 220cycles of sharing donation. This material included 216transferrals among 160recipients. The harvested eggs were diveded equally between donors and recipients, except in those cases in which one of the partners didn’t accept frozen embryos. In these cases, the other partner received a greater number of eggs. When the harvest resulted in less than six eggs, these were used exclusively by the donor. The egg sharing model was approved by the Commitee of the Institution of Ethics and by the Regional Medical Council of the Federal District. Results:250 fresh embryos transfers occured among the donors. Among the 220 donations within the recipient group there occurred 216 embryos transfers (were four fertilization failures). The average number of embryos transfered was 3.3 and 3.7, respectively, among donors and recipients. The clinical pregnancy rate and embryo implantation rate by transferal was, respectively, 35.3 and 16.5 among donors, and 39.3 and 16.4 among recipients. None of the comparative data between donors or recipients shows statistically significant differences. Conclusion: The egg sharing donation is an alternative that has been judged to be ethical and that has shown itself to be effective for donors and recipients, making possible for many couples the ability to share costs and harvested eggs. Even more, it has made it possible for two women to realize their dreams of maternity simultaneously, with only a single cycle of stimulation and a single harvesting of eggs.
