Introduction: The aim of this study was evaluate the presence of aspects involved in couple life and the expectance in front of pregnancy trying, by assisted reproduction technology. Material and methods: Prospective study, careered on Fertility– Assisted Fertilization Center, between 2003 July and 2004 October. Three hundred and ninety two couples were included, in two groups: A, 213 couples that underwent treatment and paid the costs as routine; B, 179 social couples, who underwent treatment by Free Treatment Program. After clinic attendance, the couple signed the Consent Term and answered a questionnaire, under psychological supervision. Results: 88,3% of couple showed success expectance of treatment higher than the real, among the intention of them if a pregnancy failure happen, the most of couples on group B intend begin a new treatment while in group A, they do not think in this possibility. We could see that 77,8% of couples share the infertility with other people and that 51% of couples did not answer the question about welfare against the infertility diagnosis. In front of that we ask couples if there were waiting time to ask for specialized treatment, and we noted that 77,4% of group A and 85,9% of group B answered yes. In the last part of our study, multiple pregnancy have been seeing more apprehensive by group A than group B. Conclusion: In accord with results, it is necessary appreciate the professional of mental health knowledgement on multi-professional team on assisted reproduction services.
