Abstract
A total of 360 infertile patients were investigated for prevalence of hyperprolactinemia and the leveis of PRL were correlated to the thyroidean variables (TSH, total T4 and ITL). A prevalence of 1 8% of the patients with high prolactin was found. Also, significant values (p=0,037) for the correlation PRL and TSH
were verified. The number of cases of primary and secondary sterility, duration of sterility, period of connubial life, and age were also evaluated. The results showed a higher percentage of primary sterility (63,6%) in relation to secondary sterility (36,4%) and the percentage of period of sterility, conjugal life
and age were close. The results are similar when compared to patients with high PRL, showing that these patients do not represent in this study a special group of infertile patients. Similar to the PRL dosage, the evaluation of the function of the thyroid is also useful in the study of infertile women.
