Abstract
The first reported technique on tubal transfer was named GIFT. The technique involves mixing the gametes and placing them in the normal tubes of the patient. The combination of in vitro fertilisation techniques and tubal transfers originated distinct procedures. PROST is the same as ZIFT, intrafalIopian transfer of a zygote or pronuclear embryo. TET is the tubal transfer of a cleaved embryo. The superiority of the results of tubal transfers in comparison to uterine transfers stilI have to be analysed in prospective randomized studies, by etiology and age of the patients. The use of tubal transfer could representa valid alternative to IVF/lCSI patients with mechanical difficulty or impossibility of uterine transfer. The need of laparoscopy and anestesia, however, makes this type of transfer represent less than 15% of alI assisted reproduction procedures performed worldwide.
