Abstract
Understanding the molecular and cell biology basis of fertilization is central in creating a complete body of knowledge regarding normal and abnornal reproduction. Considering that ART (as "in vitro" fertilization and ICSI) have been became routine to infertility treatment, many problems can be solved
in terms of fertilization processo This review focused main events since gametes plasm membrane fusion until first diploid cell formation (zygote) and its clinical relevance. Some aspects according to fertilization failures or abnormalities, role of centrioli and mitochondria during embryo development were also related.
