Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assess the fertilization rates in patients with positive and negative mixed antiglobulin reaction(MAR) test results. In order to rule out the presence of immunologic infertility, the MAR test was performed by mixing fresh and untreated semen samples with red blood cells coated with human immunoglobulin G(lgG), or A(lgA). A monospecific anti-human-lgG antiserum was added to the mixture. The formation of mixed agglutinates between particles and motile spermatozoa indicated the presence of IgG or IgA antibodies on the spermatozoa. More than 10% was considered a positive reaction. Fertilization diagnosis was done when 2 polar bodies, or at least 2 pronucleus were observed 12-20hours later after insemination. Fertilization rates of MAR test positive and negative groups were compared. Of the 282 men, 208(73.8%) had negative MAR test for both IgG and IgA; 74(26.2%) had a positive MAR test. Of the 74 patients who had a positive MAR test, 17(6%) were positive for IgA and IgG, 47(16.7%) were positive for only IgA, and 10(3.5 %) positive only for IgG.
