Abstract
The intracytoplasmatic sperm injection (ICSI) carne to solve the problem of infertile men, but it carne into question concerning the probability of genetic implications and the possible inheritance of these by their offspring. Chromosomal analysis was performed on cultured peripheral Iymphocytes by G-banded chromosome preparations, in 56 infertile men (11 azoospermic and 45 oligoastenospermic) prior ICSI treatment. Two patients (3.57%) were carrier of Klinefelter's syndrome, 47, XXY and one patient (1.79%) was carrier of Robertossonian translocations, 45, XY, t(13; 14), (11p; 11q) recent reports showed that these types of chromosomal alterations are particularly related to male infertility and it can lead to serious clinical consequences. Therefore, the chromosomal diagnosis and the genetic counselling must be accomplished in these couples prior to the intracytoplasmatic sperm injection treatment. The prenatal diagnosis also must be recommended. This kind of procedure help to reduce the insuccess rate of the treatment, abortions and it also avoids the inheritance of these chromosomal alterations in a harmful manner by the offspring.
