Abstract
The purpose of this article is to show CEGyR's experience with ICSI in 70 cases of obstructive and non obstructive azoospermia.
Material and Methods: Since the period November 1994 until July 1997, 507 cycles of ICSI have been done in CEGyR. There were 19 obstructive azoospermic patients and 24 cycles of ICSI were done. Forty four non obstructive patients began 46 cycles of treatment.
Results: Obstructive azoospermia: Ten patients obtained spermatozoa from epididymo, 13 from the testis and 1patient used previously criopreserved sample. The normal fertilization rate was 94,37%. There was no fertilization in one case, therefore 23 transfers were done. The pregnancy rate was 39,13% and the implantation rate was 14,94%. Non obstructive azoospermia: Forty six cycles of ICSI were initiated with 44 patients Spermatozoa were retrieved from the testis. In 19 patients there were no spermatozoa in the testicular biopsy (43,18%).ln one case previously cryopreserved sample was used. The normal fertilization rate was 94,3%. Twenty seven transfers were done. The pregnancy rate was 40,74 % and the implantation rate was 16,09%.
Conclusion:Results obtained in CEGyR shows that the association of ICSI with sperm aspiration in azoospermic patients is a good choice for them. ln non obstructive azoospermia spermatozoa were obtained from the testis in 63,82%.Chances of normal fertilization and pregnancy rate as well as implantation rate are similar in obstructive and non obstructive azoospermic patients.
