Abstract

Introduction: Morphological evaluation ofspermatozoa based on strict criteria gives prognostic values on in vivo and in vitro fertilization. The objective ofthe present paper is evaluating the prognostic value of strict criteria when 1CSI techniques are performed. Material and Methods: A total of 1 02 patients were submitted to morphological spermatozoa evaluation based on strict Tygerberg criteria. Ferti/ization rates were obtained afier ICSI procedures in each group and subgroup proposed by Kruger. Results: 20 patients (19,6%) presented as P pattern (group I), 77 patients (75,4%) presented as G pattern (group lI) and 5 patients (5%) presented as normal forms ≥14% (group III). Fertilization rates were respectively: 81,4 ± 20,7% (group I); 75,3±28, 4% (group II) e 74,8±17% (group III). Conclusions: Strict criteria has no influence on fertilization rates when ICSI technic was performed.
