Abstract
Introduction: The development of assisted reproduction techniques has improved the treatment of inferlile couples. However, the age of the women and embryo quality have been the limitations for better results. Intracitoplasmic sperm injection could improve embryo implantation because of zona pellucida manipulation.
Material and Methods: Embryo implantation rate (TI) of 54 patients submitted to IVF and 59 patients submitted to I CSI were retrospectively studied. ln each group were reviewed the TI of patients younger than 30, between 30 and 35, and older than 35; also were evaluated the TI of patients to whom were transfered at least 1 grade 1 or 11 embryo and those who received only grde III, IV or V embryos.
Results: Statistical analysis did not show significant differences neither between TI of both groups (lVF-ll. 6 x 1CSI -9. 0) nor the differents age groups (IVF: 17.2x13.1x4.1 e ICSI: 12.5x9.7x7.8). A lso there were no significant variations between the groups when at least 1 grade 1 or II embryos were transfered. However, there no implantation's when only grade III, IV or V embryos were transfered.
Conclusion: TI was similar between FIV and I CSI; age ofthe patient did not injluence TI in both groups and transfer of at least one morphological good embryo was important for pregnancy in FIV and ICSI.
